Kumasi Hive and Unicef holds the UPSHIFT Social Entrepreneurship Durbar
All too soon, the UPSHIFT Project came to an end with a grand Durbar at the Islamic Education Unit at Asanwase near the Central mosque in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The UPSHIFT project which is fully funded by Unicef sought to provide the youth of Asokore Mampong, specifically in the Aboabo community and its environs the mindset of becoming social innovators as well as entrepreneurs.
The project which started with an engagement of community leaders and key stakeholders to better understand how best the project can thrive were all present at the Durbar.
The Durbar was held on the 16th of October with Mr. Shakib Mohammed, the headmaster of Wataniya Islamic school as the Keynote speaker for the ceremony. The theme for the event was “ The role of the Zongo Youth in Entrepreneurship and National Development”. Mr. Mohammed expressed his excitement about the opportunity given to the youth of his community to join a life-changing training like this, knowing the kind of perception people have about the Zongo youth.
The participants who were in incubation were given the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to the invited guests at the event, and two people from the internship were also given the opportunity to share their experiences in the internship and how the pieces of training have impacted their lives.
At the end of the summit, all trainees were presented with certificates and some individuals and stakeholders were presented with awards and citations to appreciate their selfless dedication and support towards the successful completion of the project. Some of the awards include Best Social Innovation, Most Committed Trainee, Outstanding Stakeholder, amongst others.
